A Cease and Desist Letter Can Keep Debt Collectors From Contacting You

Are you sick of debt collectors calling you at all times of the day and night? It can be very stressful to have to deal with these harassing phone calls. Would you like to cease these debt collectors from calling you ever again? A cease and desist letter is just what you need in order to cease these harassing phone calls. Once the collector receives your letter, the FDPCA allows the collector to contact you one final time, in writing, to let you know what action, if any, the collector will take next.
Here’s a sample letter that you might use:

Dear Debt Collector:
Pursuant to my rights under federal debt collection laws, I am requesting that you cease and desist communication with me, as well as my family and friends, in relation to this and all other alleged debts you claim I owe.
You’re hereby notified that if you don’t comply with this request, I’ll immediately file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the [your state here] Attorney General’s office. Civil and criminal claims will be pursued.

Thats all there’s to it. Send this letter to all of your debt collectors and they will have to cease all phone calles.

- Customize the cease and desist letter with your information including the current date, your name, address, and account number given by the debt collector.
- Send the letter via certified mail with return receipt requested so you’ve proof of the letter’s mailing and receipt.
